Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at JLR?
Extremely supportive and with a wide range of activities design to improve your professional abilities. Freedom to move around and shape your own career. Very community focused with lots of events and opportunities for networking.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
The role is to undertake a number of placements across various teams throughout the Business. You will do week long shadowing placements during 3-6 month periods where you're working full time within an established team. At the end you will return to one of these teams to work full time. My experience has been in Chassis Dyno Operations (Lots of coding and data analysis), followed by MHEV System Integration (Test Driving and logging), and currently in a Business Office role building up my Business Admin skills. These have all been meaningful and have grown my professional abilities a lot.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
There are lots of teams with varying support for graduates. Some roles will be busy and stressful and packed with responsibility while others are closer to college courses with set projects and presentations. It's very dependent on what you want and how much effort you're willing to put in. No matter where you go the support from Early Careers is incredible and you'll quickly overcome any issues you encounter.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
Extremely well. You have 20% protected time for learning and yet you're paid for 100%. Pay also goes up every year substantially.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
My career is very secure, and I feel that I can see that role and undertake experiences that will build my competencies toward being a skilled engineer at the end of my 2 year placement.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
4/5
You learn a lot every day. The only thing to be careful of is settling into a role and making little effort to change roles or gain new experiences. There is training that everyone undertakes but the true on the job experience comes from seeking the experiences that will push you hard.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
4/5
Extremely good in most circumstances but other graduates have had poor experiences with certain teams
How is your work-life balance?
4/5
Very balanced for a graduate but it is clear that it is not the case for most managers and senior employees as they often work 9 to 12 hour days
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
General atmosphere is very welcoming and supportive. Very people focused company with plenty of events
How would you rate JLR initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
Extremely good. Above and beyond!
How would you rate JLR CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
Very good. Cycle to work schemes, car share, public transport, and of course the commercial policies of electrification and circularity

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
For all the good the company has to offer. There are very few downsides and incredible benefits
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
3/5
I was underwhelmed at first, it sounds naive, but I had built it up to be this super-fast paced exciting thing and in reality, it is still a job and there is a lot to learn.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to JLR?
They care about the person not the qualifications. If you have the right mindset and put in the work, they will take you on
