Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Savills?
I have greatly valued the client exposure I’ve had during rotations where such opportunities have been available, though I do wish there were more consistent avenues to engage in client-facing activities. I appreciate that, from a senior perspective, graduates may not always be included in client events such as lunches or drinks due to budget considerations or concerns around experience and knowledge. However, my understanding upon joining Savills was that we would be encouraged to begin building relationships with clients early on, as these connections may one day become valuable when we take on more senior roles. I believe it’s unfortunate that these opportunities are not offered to us more frequently. Personally, having such experiences would strongly reinforce my aspiration to pursue a future career at Savills, as it would demonstrate trust and encouragement. However, I feel that these opportunities have been somewhat limited.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Property Management - Service Charge Reconciliation, Service Charge Budgeting, Chasing Arrears, Resolving Tenant Dispute.
Commercial Valuation - Due Diligence, Collect Comparable Rental & Investment Evidence, Determine ERV (Estimated Rental Value), Analyse Comparable Evidence, Engage with Argus Enterprise to Establish Market Value, Make Weighted Assumptions for Market Value.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
3/5
During my time at Savills, I have undertaken a variety of roles that have offered differing levels of responsibility and engagement. Some positions have allowed me to take full ownership of specific situations and issues, enabling me to delve deeper and drive resolutions independently, an aspect of the work I have found particularly rewarding. Other roles have been more procedural in nature, where my responsibilities were more structured and aligned with standard practices. While these roles have still contributed meaningfully to the team’s success, they did not provide the same level of autonomy or involvement.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
I feel that these are all fair.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
3/5
Overall, I feel things have gone relatively well, but I believe it would be more beneficial to receive a bit more support from each team throughout the rotations. I fully appreciate that, as graduates, it is our responsibility to seek clarification and proactively ask for help to deepen our understanding, and that teams are aware we are only with them for a limited period before moving on. However, at times, it has felt as though some teams are less invested in supporting our learning and development, focusing primarily on completing the work rather than helping us understand how it connects to the APC process, because they know we are not there for the long-term.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
3/5
During my rotations, I experienced varying levels of responsibility. In the valuation team, for example, despite completing a double rotation, approximately 80% of my time was dedicated to conducting comparable calls. While this task is essential for producing accurate and detailed valuations, it limited my exposure to analytical work on Argus Enterprise, a skill I was eager to develop in order to strengthen my overall understanding. As a result, it was challenging to build broader valuation expertise, as my involvement felt somewhat restricted. Nevertheless, the experience of conducting comparable calls proved valuable, enabling me to enhance my ability to interact effectively with competitors and extract the key information required to support our valuations.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
4/5
If I have had any issues I have always felt very comfortable raising them with HR and my line managers and they have always supported me and helped me resolve said issues.
How is your work-life balance?
3/5
It has fluctuated quite a lot depending on certain rotations with some being more demanding than others. It has been, at times, challenging on my mental health but this has been a mixture of personal matters outside the workplace as well.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
4/5
Everyone's been very welcoming in each team.
How would you rate Savills initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
3/5
How would you rate Savills CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
4/5
I feel like there are a lot of opportunities and activities to engage in.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think its a very supportive workplace that provides a stable foundations for anyone breaking into the industry.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
I think moderately well, the only aspect that didn't meet my expectations in the exposure to clients, but I appreciate this is team dependant and so will fluctuate accordingly.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Savills?
Be transparent and demonstrate your independence. Anyone can learn an automated system, which is ultimately just a small part of the role. However, I strongly believe that while Savills can teach you new skills and knowledge, they cannot change your personality. At the end of the day, it is your character and individuality that truly matter. That is their unique selling point, the diversity of personalities within the company is what makes Savills so appealing, ensuring there is a place for everyone. Be authentic, share a silly story, and clearly demonstrate why you are a worthwhile investment of time and resource.
