Trading Management Review

During my internship I sat on the Trading Management desk, where my role was very project-driven but closely tied to the day-to-day needs of the traders. Trading Management focuses on supporting the Head of Trading, ensuring he has visibility of the trading floor, and front office supervision, our internal control and regulatory framework to ensure front office activity aligns with EDFT’s core values.
Day to day, my work involved developing and improving tools in Excel, Power Query, and through APIs, with a strong focus on modelling and automation. For example, I updated the Live P&L sheet to integrate intraday data with live prices, providing clearer real-time visibility, and created automated processes to streamline daily reporting.

Yes, I was given a good level of responsibility, but always with strong mentorship and guidance from the team. I was trusted to contribute to projects that supported the desk, while being able to learn from more experienced colleagues. This made the work rewarding, as I could take ownership of my work but also felt supported throughout.

Yes, I developed my technical skills in Excel, Power Query, and working with APIs, particularly in building models and automating processes. I also strengthened my analytical skills through projects such as updating the Live P&L sheet and streamlining daily reporting. Beyond the technical side, I gained experience working closely with traders and management, which helped me develop my communication and problem-solving skills in a front-office environment.

I received a strong level of support and guidance throughout my internship. My mentors were always willing to answer questions and provide feedback, which made it easy to learn and build confidence in my work. At the same time, I was encouraged to take ownership of my projects, so the guidance I received complemented rather than limited my responsibility.

The culture was very supportive and friendly, with people always willing to answer questions and take the time to explain things. I had one-to-one chats with people from different business units, and they were very happy to give up their time to share their experiences. The atmosphere across the company felt open, collaborative, and welcoming.

I really enjoyed my internship and learnt a great deal. It was a steep learning curve but very rewarding, and it has made me keen to return in the future.
