Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I assisted in various structural design and optioneering tasks. A typical day would be coming into the office and completing these calculations/reports with a meeting or two most days with my team and/or other personnel of interest to our project.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

A fair amount given my level of expertise. the tasks I were given were for me to complete and figure out (with help if need be). The work I was completing felt useful to the team and all decisions I made were implemented onto the design we were working on.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I was able to develop the skills I have developed at university to a more than adequate level and got to see what parts of my education I needed to focus on for my final year at university. I also was able to develop my report writing a lot further and learnt a lot about how the nuclear industry works.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

It was very good, people are friendly and happy to have a chat about your work or life or anything really. People are hard working but also do not create an atmosphere that you need to be at 100% all the time.
