Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Renting cars! On the daily we deal with customers, learning to provide top class service to meet individual needs. We also get to develop sales skills as part of the role, inline with customer wants and needs. There are a lot of admin responsibilities, preparing for the days ahead, altogether in a fast paced environment working closely with the team.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
There is a big personal responsibility that comes with the job, ensuring that you complete processes correctly to avoid complication down the road. Dealing with tricky situations with customers is also a responsibility, doing your best to smooth things over when there’s an issue, before escalating to managers.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Loads! Starting from sales which I had little experience with, I got to learn and try out different techniques and pitches.
I developed my communication skills a lot, both within the team and with customers. Dealing with international customers and language barriers can be tricky, but adapting to each individual’s needs, I developed different communication styles; speaking slowly, writing key notes, using google translate etc. while still trying to maintain efficiency.
Being a Spanish student, I also got to practice my speaking skills with Spanish tourists which was very beneficial and something I wasn’t expecting.
I’ve learned that efficiency really is key in the business - from check ins and returns to daily admin duties, in a fast paced environment there is no time to waste.
Finally, I have developed my customer service style and strategies to deliver excellent customer service (what enterprise aim for). I’ve learned the most important aspects to delivering this is to be authentic, honest and positive.
