Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
During my internship at Bloomberg, I split my time between Sales and Analytics. Three days a week I was with Sales, on Mondays and Tuesdays I worked with my regional sales team, which matched my language skills and allowed me to connect with clients in a familiar cultural context. On Fridays, all interns joined a sales outreach competition across different regions, which gave me exposure to a variety of client types and approaches.
The other two days were in Analytics, which focused on training and client support. I received in-depth training on financial concepts and asset classes, shadowed employees to understand their roles, and practiced handling simulated client queries on the Bloomberg Terminal. I also joined team meetings and had regular check-ins with my manager.
Overall, this structure gave me both client-facing experience and technical training, helping me understand how Bloomberg serves its clients end-to-end.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I was trusted with a good level of responsibility, especially for an intern. In Sales, I was actively involved in client outreach, most of them very renowned financial services firms, both within my region and during the cross-regional competitions, which meant I wasn’t just observing but actually contributing to team goals. In Analytics, I was given simulated client queries to resolve using the Bloomberg Terminal, which mirrored real situations employees face. I also participated in team meetings and shadowing sessions, where my input and questions were valued. These responsibilities gave me hands-on experience while still being supported by training and mentorship.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Yes, I developed both new and existing skills during my internship. On the technical side, I built a stronger understanding of financial concepts, asset classes, and how to navigate the Bloomberg Terminal to solve client queries. On the professional side, I improved my communication and client engagement skills through sales outreach, especially adapting my approach across different regions and cultures. I also developed teamwork and adaptability, working with different departments and balancing Sales and Analytics. Overall, the experience gave me a mix of technical knowledge and soft skills that I can carry forward.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a lot of support and guidance throughout my internship. In Analytics, we had structured training sessions, regular check-ins with managers, and opportunities to shadow employees, which gave me a clear understanding of the role. In Sales, my team was always willing to answer questions and involve me in real outreach, so I felt included and supported while still being encouraged to take initiative. Overall, there was a strong balance between independence and mentorship, which really helped me learn and grow.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really enjoyed my internship at Bloomberg. The mix of Sales and Analytics gave me a well-rounded experience, and I liked being able to contribute directly to outreach while also building technical knowledge in finance through training and shadowing, specially because I don't come from a finance related background at all. The supportive and inclusive culture made it easy to connect with colleagues, and the balance of learning and hands-on work made the placement both enjoyable and rewarding.
