Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Supporting commercial banking relationship directors in their work. This involved supporting the process of providing businesses with loans, in one of the most front-facing roles in the bank. I also had 2 intern group projects, working with other CMB interns and also the WPB interns.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a fair amount. I was given tasks that actually have a meaningful impact on the work they do here, as well as exercises that helped my learning.

Yes, they were very supportive in terms of skills development. Some of the top skills I developed are my learning agility and collaboration.

A lot. There were many people we could reach out to for help, and the bank as a whole has a very supportive and encouraging culture, so people were happy to take the time to help me.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company was very supportive of the interns and made them feel welcome. It's a very positive and relaxed culture. I never felt too overwhelmed as the support systems are great.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
Very much, the environment was great. My only downside was that my particular office had only 2 interns and a much older crowd so it was harder to properly settle in.

What advice would you give to others applying to HSBC
They emphasise the importance of your behavioural skills. They select based on your potential, so your drive and determination. This is arguably more important that your previous financial experiences. Though you will need experiences to evidence your behavioural skills etc.
