Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I rotate through all team in the bank, including Prime, Repo, EM, Rates, FX, and DCM. I shadow people on the trading floor, perform some analysis tasks, and learn about the trades/products/day-to-day of traders and sales mainly.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I mainly learn through shadowing/chats. We do get some task to help with the desk, more do on DCM.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Trading skills, skill to form an informed trade idea and learned to take a view on different markets hence expressed through different products. Sales as well, developed a deeper understanding of role as a Sales than what I read off from the internet.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

A lot, everyone on the floor is really nice, very willing to take time off and explain what they do or answer any questions you have, despite their busy schedule. They really try to make an effort to spend time with interns, even senior level directors like MDs - they genuinely want you to learn and get to know you. Can really feel the 'no question is a stupid question' here. Learned so much in these two months.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

everyone is very nice, very friendly. Diverse group of people on the floor and very international. Have healthy initiatives like weekly padel sessions.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

very enjoyable, genuinely learnt a lot from this internship and can feel that everyone, including HR, tried to make the whole programme as enjoyable as possible for interns, and ensured we get as many learning opportunities as possible - with arrangements like breakfast with Global Head of Europe, intern/firm-wide socials to mix with the rest of the firm, etc.
