Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
The first week was mainly introduction and training. The next 3 weeks I was assigned to an insurance audit team and a client. I would support with basic tasks on an as-needed basis. Tasks I was involved in included copying into excel the Annual Report and Consolidated Financial Statements of the client so that it was in Aura format; doing accept-reject testing on commissions; reconciling figures to the P&L; documenting and testing samples; documented a review of meeting minutes and documenting a review of the internal audit reports.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given basic responsibility, however on some days I was given no work at all.

I learnt and refined my skills on excel, account reconciliation, companies house, invoicing, data reconciliation, clear communication, professional scepticism, client integrity and account receivables.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I had excellent support from my buddy and talent coach. I was welcomed by all members of my team but only supported by some members of my team. Team members usually didn't know how to guide me or even give me tasks, this was especially true with my line manager.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture was welcoming, supporting and free to be who you are. The general company and office feel was relaxing to be in. The only problem was that many employees had expressed openly their doubt on staying with the company or career field which was not the most comfortable thing to hear as an intern.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I only enjoyed about half of what I expected to. The company culture was what stood out to me, but there were problems with guidance and clarity that needs to be addressed.

What advice would you give to others applying to PwC
Before the interview stage, get into grips the basics of the tasks that your role would involve and any future qualification you would take as a graduate. Research the company and during the interview express a lot about the few aspects of the company's mission, values and future developments that you were attracted to. They like to see passion and motivation.
