Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I’m working within the IP&I – Pensions, Insurance, and Investments platform. I’ve had the chance to join lots of meetings and speak with people from different teams, which has been a great way to learn. My main role is to support my team and help out with whatever tasks come up during the week, which include some product-related analysis.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was treated as one of the team so were given some responsibiility, which was amazing. But with the flexible summer setup and lots of people off on holiday, there wasn’t as much work coming my way as I’d expected. My manager did give me a personal project for me to work on and present it back at the end of my internship.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
This role has really helped me improve my communication skills, since I’ve had to interact with people both within and outside of my team. I’ve also learned a lot about pensions and retirement — which was a completely new topic for me when I started.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
My manager and team have been super supportive and lovely — always happy to help and answer my questions. But I felt a bit isolated as the only intern in my team, and there wasn’t much interaction with others across Lloyds. The online weekly intern sessions were helpful and the facilitator was lovely, but the content felt quite broad. Topics are useful, but I think it would’ve been more helpful if the training was tailored more to our actual roles.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The atmosphere here is really welcoming and inclusive — everyone’s super nice. But there haven’t been many social opportunities to connect with others.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I’ve really enjoyed my internship — it’s been a great opportunity to learn about a subject that was new to me, and it also help me developed many important soft skills. But when I applied, the job description was quite broad, and we were randomly assigned to teams, so the actual work wasn’t quite what I expected.
