Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Creating, maintaining and reviewing technology within the bank by designing and implementing creative solutions. You can work with many different areas in the bank as well as a wide variety of teams. Things can differ on a day-to-day basis - you may be writing code, making mockups, discussing testing methods etc.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
You are given a good amount of responsibility as all the work you do actually goes towards helping the bank, they aren't dummy projects just for you as an intern. Of course, you will have help with things but you are allowed to explore and be independent.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
In terms of soft skills, I think it was an opportunity to put the skills that I already had to use in a professional corporate environment. You can work on presentation skills, public speaking, resilience, confidence etc. For technical skills, I was able to work with a lot of new and trending technologies and tools that will no doubt be great for my CV and career.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
The team and my line manager was always ready to help me and answer my questions. They are eager to see your progress and to know that you are enjoying yourself/getting something out of the internship. Sometimes, if they go too quickly when you are getting briefed, you can ask for them to explain in more detail and they are happy to.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
I was pleasantly surprised because it is very laidback with little pressure. Even though the work you are doing is high-stakes (it is a bank after all), you don't feel like bad if you make mistakes. Everyone is friendly and the office I was in was extremely beautiful and great to work in, you can go on walks around the grounds and go for coffee chats too. It is a very comfortable environment. The different teams also arranged lots of social opportunities that were good.
