Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I was in the Manage and Grow my Savings team within the retail bank, which is a team of journey developers who work on propositions and campaigns for savers. Most of my team were journey developers. As an intern there for 8 weeks I researched the use of AI in savings products, grew to understand the work of the team by participating team meetings, and practiced some of the commercial reporting that gets done.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
No. I was there to learn about the company and gain some insight into what it's like to work at NatWest rather than doing specific need-to-do tasks. I was made to feel like my research into AI in savings may be used in future. It was definitely helpful for my own personal growth.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I developed my professional soft skills, my communication and had lots of opportunities to improve my presentation skills. We were also given lots of time to develop any skills we wanted through NatWest's learning academy so I developed my Excel skills and learnt more about Agile.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Company culture was exceptionally friendly and supportive. People really do seem to care about their colleagues. We had a CSR day in which we were able to do good for the community and grow personally.

10/10 I had lots of fun. Everyone was super nice and there is a big cohort of interns which means the social side is good.

What advice would you give to others applying to NatWest Group
Go in with things you want to learn. Try and speak to as many people as possible. Set up coffee chats. Come into the office.
Don't come in with preconceived notions of the work you'll be doing. NatWest is such a big organisation and the work varies very much between teams.
