Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
First, I completed induction training and got a tour of the Compound Management lab. Then I completed in-depth shadowing of all the different roles within the compound management process. The majority of my placement was spent on data science projects working to improve workflows within compound management.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was responsible for the completion of my own projects, reaching out to my supervisors for advice, and networking within the company to receive further opportunities to tour more labs.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have developed my pre-existing skills in python, time-management, and critical thinking. I have established new skills including learning new programming languages such as SQL to extract from larger databases, learnt how to use new software such as Knime, and honed my ability to be proactive and reach out to others for advice and new opportunities.

i received as much support and guidance as I needed. After a simple message on teams, everyone seemed more than willing to help and provide me with the help and guidance I needed.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The general atmosphere is very positive - everyone is welcoming with a smile and there are a lot of events going on at AZ, so there is never a dull day! The company culture is great where everyone works collaboratively to achieve the same goals.

What advice would you give to others applying to AstraZeneca
Prepare well for the interview - research the company and the specific team you aim to join. Go through your CV beforehand and ensure you're able to discuss your previous experiences (including any volunteering/University society roles). Be open and yourself (it's okay to be a bit nervous during an interview) and be sure to demonstrate how you'd be a good fit in their team as you answer the questions.
