Ecommerce Plaa Review

In my day-to-day, I was part of the Site- Optimisation team which and then completed two, six-month group projects with my two co-placements.

I was given some responsibility. I was present in all of my team's meetings and asked for my opinions but not much opportunity to have my own role as part of the team which would've helped me find my place in the work I was doing. There was definitely room for me to take on more and I voiced it repeatedly. It seemed that there wasn't much more for me to get involved with and I was operating in an assistant capacity, rather than being able to truly own something that developed my skills and made an impact on the team. The responsibility I was given, I wasn't too clear on how it would impact the team and the extent of what they wanted from me even after asking questions- they felt like tasks to keep me busy.
The two group projects weren't completed well due to issues in the group that I voiced from the first week and didn't receive much support on. The project sponsors didn't push us to try harder as a group and settled for mediocre work that I don't believe would've even resulted in a pass on my university course.
One exception to this was when I asked to be more involved with the UX team which happened in the final months of my placement. I was happy to receive the task to completely the carrying out of a site-audit as it was a new skill set for me and the type of project I had been hoping for. That being said, I was unsure on the true impact that the audit would have on the team as the team were already aware of the majority of the site's issues and this audit would only confirm them again- I think there could've been a way to make more of an impact to making progress for the team however, I believe this was a prioritisation and action issue held on a functional level rather than specific to the Placement program.

I was exposed to a few new skills both on the more technical side under UX and optimisation and soft skills key to navigating corporate environments.
Technical Skills:
- A/B testing, ran A/B tests to aid the optimisation for the site
- UX fundamentals
Soft Skills:
- Effective communications

There were definitely the structures in place for support via multiple channels however, the support I received from them reinforced a lot of self-doubt and didn't improve my placement even though I was clearly communicating my issues.

Everyone I spoke to was really nice. I felt like I could approach everyone. TJX does try their best to suppport the company culture and values.

I didn't enjoy my placement much at all. I wish there had been something done when I raised issues/ support to figure them out. I didn't want to go into work most days
