Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role at the office begins each day with an in-person morning call. Throughout the day and week, I manage numerous tasks allocated by my team. I frequently participate in Zoom calls with my team and other colleagues across the bank. A significant part of my focus is dedicated to learning about market products, preparing and conducting mock client pitches, and developing my end-of-year presentation. Additionally, I prioritise networking within the private bank to understand different roles and build relationships, often having social events to attend after work. I am continuously engaged, as any free time is utilised for further learning through the extensive training resources provided, ensuring I always have productive activities.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
My internship has provided me with substantial responsibility, consistently supported by clear instructions and open lines of communication for any issues that arose. Each task was thoroughly explained, highlighting its impact on the team and its contribution to the overall project, which deepened my understanding of its significance. Furthermore, my contributions were regularly acknowledged in team-wide emails, affirming my accountability and providing opportunities to address any follow-up questions related to my work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
My internship has been a profound learning experience, yielding a multitude of new skills, some of which I am still fully appreciating. I have gained a robust understanding of market dynamics, investments, and their overarching role, largely through active participation in the daily morning sales calls. Beyond technical knowledge, I've cultivated essential professional etiquette, including effective self-introductions, professional email communication, networking, and relationship building.
A significant learning opportunity arose from a client pitching initiative, where I delved into market products and derivatives. This involved preparing and delivering a pitch, followed by an intensive Q&A session designed to simulate real client meetings. This exercise not only deepened my product knowledge but also significantly honed my presenting skills, a universally valuable asset.
Furthermore, I have enhanced my confidence within a corporate environment. I've also developed a strong sense of accountability and punctuality, understanding the critical importance of being prepared and on time for every situation, whether it's arriving at the office or attending meetings. These disciplines are invaluable for professional success.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture fostered a dynamic and supportive atmosphere, genuinely investing in the growth of its interns. From my very first day, the emphasis on clear communication and collaborative problem-solving was evident. There was a strong sense of teamwork, with colleagues readily offering guidance and explanations, ensuring that even complex tasks were approached with a shared understanding.
The general atmosphere was one of positive engagement and continuous learning. Crucially, the culture promoted both responsibility and recognition. Interns were given meaningful tasks, and contributions were acknowledged across the team, fostering a sense of belonging and accountability. Furthermore, there was a clear focus on networking and building relationships, with opportunities for social interaction after work, which helped integrate me into the team and the broader private bank community.
