Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I am a summer analyst within the UK Investment banking & broking team. The work revolves around servicing clients for there ECM and M&A needs as well as keeping them updated on current market conditions and opportunities for growth. Furthermore, a large part of the job surrounds giving executives in a company advice on running the company and how to message changes to the market and investors.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

We were given a lot of responsibility which is good, it enabled us to learn a lot and the level of teaching and guidance in the team was exceptional. By having so much exposure you get realistic insight into how life would be as an analyst which is incredibly important when deciding if this is a career that works for you. The internship was designed very well.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have learnt a lot of new skills, both technical and soft, as well as develop ones which I already possessed. It was a great learning experience to become more well-rounded as an individual as well as learning how to carry yourself in a professional environment.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

There was lots of support and guidance, if I was stuck on a project there was always someone to help me. The team was very understanding of the fact that this is my first time doing this sort of work and so I wont know how to do it at the start. By having a go myself first and then getting support and feedback when needed, I learnt as much as I could.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Very inclusive, everyone was very welcoming when I first joined and they made an effort to get to know me. This holds true for people in the team of all levels - analyst to managing director.

I have really enjoyed it, it has truly been a great learning experience and the work was really engaging. Would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested!
