My role is that of a night carer in a care home, with additional responsibilities, as I am usually the most senior member of staff on duty. This means I will administer medication, make decisions regarding the working shift, and handle emergencies and unexpected situations.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I generally enjoy the programme and have gained a lot of insight into best practices and better ways of working. At times, I find the written assignments to be a little lengthy and repetitive, which can sometimes lead me to seek distractions. I prefer more interactive learning, such as scenarios and fitting correct statements together.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I am continually developing new skills as I settle into my role and gain experience. The additional learning I am receiving is helping me to deal with difficult situations and remain calm and professional.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I find the structure good and enjoy working through the sections. The platform is easy to navigate, and I appreciate the variety of videos and cards to use.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I work night shifts so I do not interact with my manager/mentor as much as I would like. There are less staff working at night so there is less opportunity to work through the programme while working. This is due to my obligations to the residents and my availability to them when they need assistance. I complete most of my coursework at home alone. I am given off the job opportunities such as additional paid training and projects.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I have received fantastic support and assistance from my coach, Nikita. It is sometimes difficult to juggle full-time care work with coursework and everything that life throws my way. I always find her approachable and there when I need some advice.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel it is helping me considerably, as it keeps me mindful of best practices. I am also finding interactions more successful, as I have gained better insight into communication skills.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I have been enjoying learning to swim in my own time. I want to be able to take some of the residents swimming with me once I become more proficient. I am also working towards becoming an End of Life Champion, collaborating with some of my colleagues from work and Queenscourt Hospice.

Why?
I think that overall, they are a friendly and supportive organisation to work for. They encourage staff development and have a very inclusive ethos.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CCH Group?
I would suggest that reliability and commitment are critical. I would also say that they will be supported and made very welcome. It's hard work, but it's gratifying and a great place to learn new skills.
