Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Checking customers into the rental cars that they have booked from us. This involves going over the cover and protection that they might have already in terms of damage and trying to sell them the other protections which drastically reduce the amount that they can be liable for, sometimes even completely. Additionally, trying to sell them products or services for extra convenience, i.e., toll-tag or pre-paid fuel. Also work with dealerships, bodyshops, and insurance companies to make sure that their customers have a rental car in the event of the customer's personal car being involved in an accident, service or breakdown. We also carry out fleet delivery where we bring the car to a set location, either the business premises or the customer's house.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I have been given lots of responsibility duiring my internship. I have been left in charge of the branch and running it by myself. Sometimes with all the cars there where I am just doing tickets and other times where I am waiting for the cars to get back to the branch for waiting customers and making sure that the customers get the cars as quick as possible. Additionally, I do the vast majority of the insurance deals with one of our bodyshops and so I am in charge of maintaining a good working relationship with them and making sure that all their customers are satisfied. In terms of the driving side of the job, you are also given responsibility very quickly to drive very expensive cars and large vans which is very nice hopping in a 2025 BMW or Volvo.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
My sales skills have definitely improved as there is lots of repetition so you very quickly learn what works for you and think of ways for you to improve as well. Additionally, my customer service skills have improved as well and you learn to tailor the experience for customer's depending on what they are looking for, where they might be going and what they are like. Lastly, I have been working on my management skills as well as sorting out what cars are available for any potential walk-in customers or if there are a change of circumstances and adapting to them, e.g., a car that we had planned on renting to one customer came back with damage and is un-rentable so what is available that meets their needs and if we don't have it on sight, where can we get the appropriate vehicle from.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I have received a significant amount of support and guidance. People all over the country have been helpful explaining all the different sides of the business to me and taking the time out of their day to have a meeting over teams or coming over in person. I met the Group General Manager for a coffee and he explained all the aspects of his job and what running the group is like. Additionally, the staff in the branch have been very helpful in giving me extra responsibility and making sure that I am learning everyday I go in and improving in the job.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture is excellent. It is definitely a pl;ace where they reward hard work and one where they are there to support you. If you make a mistake, you might get pulled aside and spoken to about it but after that it is all about improving and not making the same error again. Everyone that I have met has been so friendly and welcoming. There is lots of support as well on making sure that our personal development is supported and the team atmosphere is great. Small and large wins are celebrated by everybody and people lift others up if it was a tough day in terms of sales.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I have really enjoyed my internship. At the time of writing this I still have a few weeks left and am looking forward to giving them my all in the peak season and seeing if I can increase my sales and further develop some relationships that I have formed. Additionally, I have learnt to much about sales and have improved my customer service as well which has made it even more fun. Have got to know some regular customers and the people in the bodyshops and dealerships quite well and they are have all been so nice.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Enterprise Mobility to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Enterprise Mobility
Advice to others would be to immerse yourself into it. Try and learn as much as possible and reach out to as many people as possible since there is so much more to the company than meets the eye. People just think we are a rental company for those on holiday and there is so much more that goes on behind the scenes that people wouldn't know. Additionally, if you are an intern, try and get involved with the Intern of the Year competition as it is so handy for learning more about the company.
