Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The insight included me working on one project throughout the entire vacation. I was involved mainly with revenue- in the interim stage of the audit. This allowed me to understand the entire process for what you need from the client and how you collate and test the samples (reconciling it back to the revenue listing). Most days I was sat with my team, and we had daily stand-ups of stating your progress of what you did yesterday and what you did today, which allowed me to develop my audit terminology.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
I learnt how the teams interact and how they also go through a similar process with obtaining feedback on their objectives each year, which showed the process of how to reach promotion. However, there was not much discussion on other roles apart from audit- it does not seem that flexible to experience other business lines like sustainability, which I am very interested in. Luckily, I did ask around to find someone who worked in this field, which allowed me to learn more about what their role includes, which made me want to request to venture into this role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have developed my communication skills. This has been developed through various client meetings where I was given the opportunity to lead one of the meetings, and put into practice everything I had learnt. Discussing with the client the project process and what we require also allowed me to understand why we need the information we do because I was required to explain this. Furthermore, my excel skills have significantly improved, I have learnt how to use datasnipper and filter columns to find and file information more efficiently.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight, just a shame it was not a bit longer as I would have loved to of been able to shadow someone in sustainability assurance. Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte
I would just say that you need to show your passion, for the role but also the company too. I think that soft skills like communication are the most important, especially for learning as much as you can during the time you get.
