Structural Engineering Intern Review

The role entails completing calculation or modelling based tasks in relation to ongoing projects within the company. Usually most of the day is spent using CAD software like Rhino or GSA to complete design work. Team meeting are also an integral part of the role as well as good collaboration amongst smaller groups in the office spaces.

I was given large amounts of responsibility in my specific tasks, but always encouraged to regularly check-in and all my work that could be important for submission to a client would still be thoroughly checked.
I was also given responsibilities outside of the realm of work in terms of organisation of social events like the sports day or pub trips after work.

Yes, I have developed my overall engineering understanding through application and solving project specific problems. I have also gained skills in CAD software that I had not previously used simply by using them each day in work and asking questions of co-workers when stuck or experimenting.

I was given plenty of support from all members of my team, they were always happy to answer questions and sit with me to guide me through something if needed.
I felt well supported and everyone was very grateful to me come the end of my placement.

The company culture is very relaxed everyone genuinely cares about the work they are doing but are still happy to attend socials and have a drink at the end of the day.

I absolutely loved my placement, the people were all lovely and I will definitely be reapplying in the hope of a graduate role.
