Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Doing drawings in CAD software, often going back and forth when receiving feedback/markups. Having meetings with engineers to gain a better understanding of what the drawings should show. Training to use different softwares on the go, but often asking others for help. I normally work from 8:30 to 4:30 (ish) with a half an hour lunch break.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was able to work independently but as a result of the area, everything is supervised and managed. I was responsible for my time, and getting the required work done - along with keeping others in the loop about what I am doing.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have learnt two new CAD softwares (Microstation and AutoCAD) along with plugins such as PDSSign and PDSLine, which I wouldn't otherwise have learnt. This has developed my CAD skills. Developed my attention to detail, along with my awareness of standards and how to actively adhere to them.

A lot of support. Everyone was really helpful with the systems and the software, along with general workplace support

What advice would you give to others applying to Arup
Put lots of effort into the early application stages, such as the video interviews. Come prepared and settled for the online/in person interviews - and remember that the technical exercises can be answered creatively
