Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Day to day I have used excel to construct design calculation reports for the design checks I have been undertaking. I have used modelling software such as GSA to observe stress behaviour in structural components due to applied loadings. I have used Word to write reports on my findings and have used AutoCad to present any work that I have designed

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given responsibility to perform a secondary design check for a parapet foundation design for a walkway that approaches a bridge. I had to ensure that my design was completed independently to the primary design, referencing all calculations used from Eurocodes and ensuring it was presented in a clear and correct manner.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I had a mentor in the Bridges Team who guided me through the process. I also had help from other graduate engineers that gave me help and advice when I asked.
