Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
In regards to technical skills, I was able to become more proficient in using different software programmes such as GSA, Rhino, Grasshopper, and Bluebeam. In addition to this, I was able to become more independent as Arup generally encourages taking self-initiative.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
While the internship encouraged taking self-initiative and independence, senior team members were extremely nice and welcoming. I always felt like I could just reach out and ask for support whenever I couldn't solve a problem on my own.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Generally very welcoming and relaxed culture. Although work can sometimes be stressful, everyone is willing to help each other out and there were many amenities in office.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really enjoyed how I was encouraged to learn and explore on my own. It was a very fulfilling internship where I felt that I was able to meaningfully improve my own skills and knowledge of this field.

What advice would you give to others applying to Arup
Try to demonstrate your interest and passion in the field. While it is important to have a basic level of knowledge, a lot is taught during the internship from scratch and you aren't expected to know any specific software or complex engineering knowledge.
