Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I’m a Growth Marketing Intern at Sage, supporting projects across HR. My role involves analysing data to find growth opportunities, helping shape go-to-market strategies, and creating tools for sales and marketing teams. On a typical day, I might be mapping customer journeys, researching competitors, or building messaging frameworks. I work closely with teams across product, sales, and marketing to help drive adoption, improve retention, and support commercial decision-making
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I was trusted with a good amount of responsibility from early on. I led parts of strategic projects like win/loss analysis, competitor research, and market modelling. I also created messaging frameworks and sales enablement tools that were used across various teams. It definitely didn’t feel like a ‘shadowing’ placement, I was actively contributing

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Absolutely. I’ve developed my strategic thinking by working on real go-to-market launches and learned how to translate data into meaningful insights. I’ve also strengthened my communication skills through cross-functional collaboration with loyalty, sales, and marketing teams. On top of that, I’ve picked up practical tools like Power BI, improved how I structure messaging, and gained confidence in presenting ideas to different stakeholders. It’s been a big step up from classroom learning to real world impact

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I had the best mix of support and freedom. My managers didn’t micromanage me, but they always had my back when I needed guidance too. I could ask anything, like no question was ever too small and they really cared about my growth. Even outside my team, people were down to help or just talk things through. It felt like I was treated as part of the team, not “just the intern,” which made all the difference

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture at Sage was honestly one of my favourite parts. It’s supportive and people genuinely want you to do well. I never felt like “just the intern” like my ideas were taken seriously, and everyone was super approachable, even senior leaders. The vibe is collaborative but relaxed, and there’s space to learn without pressure

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
Honestly? I really enjoyed it. It wasn’t just busywork, like I actually got to do real projects and see my work go live. The team were lovely, the vibes were good, and I felt like I was learning and contributing at the same time. Of course there were some “what is going on” days, but overall, I’d 100% do it again. It’s made me way more confident in what I want next

Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Sage (UK) Ltd
Honestly? Don’t overthink it. Sage rates people who take initiative, stay curious, and aren’t afraid to figure stuff out as they go. You don’t need to know everything, just show that you care, ask smart questions, and actually want to make an impact. And pls, don’t sit in silence the whole time. Talk to people, get involved, make your name known. You get out what you put in
