Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

This role supports the Power Systems BU in a Procurement Finance Role. Working in a multinational company that employs over 75,000 people helping to achieve the company's $34 billion revenue in 2023, provides an excellent environment to develop my financial and accounting skills over the wide range of duties and responsibilities that I have been given.
My duties include monthly GCR/NCR reporting and associated analysis, PSBU external spend analysis, IPV/PPV consolidation summaries, monthly journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and asset capitalizations.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

This is a fully independent role with real-world responsibilities. Solely responsible for submitting month-end journal entries, consolidating IPV/PPV reports and summaries, creating monthly comparisons to present to a global diverse team, asset capitalizations and dispositions.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

This role was fantastic for development. I developed a wide array of skills in accounting, financial analysis, intercompany and external spend analysis, price variance reports, and asset capitalizations.
I also developed confidence through monthly presentations, increased digital communications, and advanced technical skills through the use of systems such as Mactrack, BOLT, Essbase, Oracle Hyperion Financial Management, and Sievo.
I also developed networking skills, setting up regular meetings with a wide array of financial roles within treasury, tax, and purchasing business units. A great opportunity to learn about industry roles and their day-to-day processes.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I enjoyed my placement and the opportunities it presented consistently over the year. Gained valuable industry knowledge as well as transferrable skills which I can use in my next role.
