Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Most of my job involves the testing and analysis of part failures seen by customers in the field, making a verdict on who is liable for the failure based on the evidence and then communicating our findings backed up with detailed reports to the customer. We also work to review data from all failure current and historic and use any patterns or factors identified to help with the elimination of the failure mode and improve the quality of the system.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes i was given lots of responsibility, I was put in charge of the warranty applications from one specific customer. It was my job to ensure inspections were being carried out in a timely manner by our appraisal team, I was also responsible for reviewing the finding and raising any new issues found to the wider team for awareness, Then i was to communicate the findings to the customer and answer any questions they had relating to out process.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Yes, I have improved my communication skills as i have had to articulate my reasoning behind certain choices made to others within the team. Sometimes this includes a customer team who are not native English speakers and that must be accommodated in how arguments are being worded so all party's are fully aware of what conclusions were reached by our team and why that was the case. I feel this will be a great asset to me going forward.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Cummins
I would advise others to pick their role very carefully and to look closely at the terms of the employment contract as to whether it is hybrid or on site full time as the flexibility provided by hybrid makes working so much easier, it is also important to know where you are based as Cummins has many sites across the globe and sometimes multiple across one country. It is important you are in a job that interests you and will get you where you wan to go in the future
