Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My daily work involves writing and debugging code, attending stand-up meetings, and contributing to ongoing projects such as web development, chatbot and AI integration, vr. technologies and enhancing user interfaces. I also research and experiment with new tools to improve functionality and performance.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I had the opportunity to present demos of my work to senior members of the business, showcasing the progress and impact of my projects. I also delivered workshops in schools, helping to engage and inspire students about technology and software development. Additionally, I took on a mentoring role by helping onboard and support new placement students, sharing knowledge and guiding them through the tools and processes we use.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I’ve developed both new and existing skills. I’ve gained hands-on experience with containerization using Docker, integrated AI tools and chatbots into real-world applications, and worked with NVIDIA technologies. My existing programming skills in JavaScript, Python, and web development have improved significantly through practical application in team projects. I’ve also developed a better understanding of software development workflows, version control with Git, and agile methodologies, as well as enhanced my problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills through daily collaboration with colleagues.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a strong level of support and guidance. My team and manager were always approachable and willing to help, whether I needed technical assistance, feedback on my work, or advice on how to approach a problem. I had regular check-ins to discuss my progress.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
company culture at Computacenter was welcoming, collaborative, and supportive. From the start, I felt like a valued member of the team, with colleagues always ready to offer help or share knowledge. There was a strong emphasis on professional development and continuous learning, which created a positive environment for growth. The atmosphere was friendly and inclusive, with regular team meetings, social events, and a good balance between professionalism and approachability.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Computacenter. It was a rewarding experience that allowed me to apply my technical skills in real-world projects while also learning new technologies and development practices. I particularly enjoyed the variety in my work, as well as the opportunities to present my work, run workshops, and support new starters. The supportive team culture and the chance to take on meaningful responsibilities made the placement both enjoyable and valuable for my personal and professional growth.
