Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

The role aims to support existing projects by doing analytical experiments. A range of analytical techniques and equipment will be used on a daily basis. During the time at the company, you will get trained on relevant techniques safety requirements and also personal developments. Detail requirements and work varies depending on the team. You also have a chance to conduct a 10-week self lead project during the placement. This will be a full 10-week dedicated to the project itself.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes. You will be responsible for the project that you have taken, especially the 10-week self-lead project. You receive assistant and all necessary help but it is expected for the majority to be self-driven. You are treated the same way as others (but of course with lots of support).

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

The placement taught me extensive skills in the lab which I would not have been able to learn within the university. Outside of the lab, there are also chances to do personal development on generic skills or academic skills, such as communication, working and planning, presenting and much more.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

All of your colleagues will be there to help you, and as long as you asked, there will be someone that can help. The guidance system throughout the process was comprehensive, and you will always have a point of contact if you are unsure about something.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I have definitely made a lot more than I have expected out of this placement. Nevertheless there could be much more than currently if I have tried more! I believe it's definitely a great opportunity to grow myself, to make something meaningful and impactful, knowing that everything you did here is on an actual project in science and could potentially make a difference.
