Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As a Data Analyst, I work closely with stakeholders to understand and deliver on business requirements. I participate in daily stand-ups with my team to stay aligned and share progress. My day-to-day involves writing SQL queries to extract and manipulate data, and uploading key performance indicators to existing Power BI dashboards to help visualize and track insights across the business.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was trusted with a broad range of responsibilities during my placement. In the project I’ve been working on, I ensured the accurate collection of information related to performance measures, communicated findings back to engineers to support technical discussions, built the measures within Teradata, and acted as a key point of contact between engineers and stakeholders to maintain alignment and clarity throughout the project.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I had daily stand-ups with my team, meeting with my line manager fortnightly and had a once a month catch-up with my Early careers manager. Throughout the whole placement my Line manager and early-careers manager has kept their doors open for support so I felt very supported and guided during my placement.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture is very customer first so everything is being done the right way and in a meaningful way. Everyone finds value in their work and they always tackle every decision in the customer's best interest. Being the new person in the company was not difficult at all as everyone was very nice and patient, I have not come across one bad interaction with anyone in the company and really enjoyed working here.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really enjoyed my placement as it gave me the opportunity to work on meaningful projects, strengthen my technical skills, and collaborate with both engineers and stakeholders. The level of responsibility I was given made the experience all the more rewarding. I particularly enjoyed exploring other careers within nationwide as they are very open to employees exploring other roles. Nationwide emphasises on cultivating a growth mindset, which aligned well with my own goals and desires.
