Industrial Placement Review

My role consists of building/improving dashboards and fixing/upgrading current data sources for reporting and systems. I have daily tasks to perform as well which consist of updating senior co workers from daily reports which have been automated during my time here. I attend daily calls to ensure everything is working smoothly and make casual updates to make sure everyone is informed.

I was given responsibility to deliver one of the most important reports sent to the executive co workers for the bank. I was also tasked to deliver more reports still important and high priority to senior stakeholders. There was pressure for the delivery and quality of these reports, I had to make sure the data was correct and displayed exactly the way they were asked.

I have learnt how to use multiple BI tools to build new dashboards, designing new reports and writing SQL queries. I did have previous SQL experience from university but here I have actually applied my learning in different scenarios. I have also improved my communication and presentation skills by taking every opportunity I can when displaying my work. Making calls with co-workers and my team has helped me develop my efficiency in making business decisions and coordinate future projects.

I received tons of support and guidance from my teams, co-workers, managers and everyone I worked with on projects. I never hesitated to ask questions where I was confused and unsure, I received help whenever I asked. I have to say however I did not receive anything from my early careers pastoral support, I never felt like I needed it but felt like it was pointless being appointed one.

Everyone was very nice and with a great attitude, offering help when needed. A really friendly atmosphere where people weren't afraid to say how they feel and their opinions were listened to.

I enjoyed my placement internship, working with great people every day who are just as enthusiastic and eager to work. Every interaction I made was pleasant, and they took the time to understand any issue I was going through and how to fix it. The highlight was the fact that as much as I learnt from the people around me, I also taught the people around me and had the ability to help those in need.
