Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Completed a five-week internship at Forvis Mazars, gaining hands-on experience in accountancy and professional services. Worked with tools like Dext, Xero, and Excel to support IKD statements, payment runs, VAT returns, and management information reports. Participated in skills sessions and a structured induction programme, while collaborating with diverse clients and teams. Developed technical and professional skills, with the opportunity to fast-track into a 2026 graduate trainee role.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I was given a good level of responsibility throughout my internship. I worked on real client tasks such as preparing VAT returns, assisting with payment runs, and contributing to management information reports. I also used tools like Dext, Xero, and Excel to process financial data. These responsibilities allowed me to contribute meaningfully to the team while developing my technical and professional skills in a supportive environment.

Yes, I’ve learned a wide range of new skills during my internship, particularly in using tools like Dext, Xero, and working on tasks such as VAT returns, payment runs, and management information reports. This experience has strengthened both my technical capabilities and my confidence in applying them in a professional setting.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a great deal of support and guidance throughout my internship. From day one, the team was approachable and always willing to help. I had regular check-ins with my supervisor, and colleagues were happy to answer questions and explain tasks in detail. The structured induction and skills sessions also provided a solid foundation, making it easy to learn and grow in a supportive environment.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture at Forvis Mazars was generally professional and driven, with a strong focus on high standards and client service. Many people were incredibly supportive, approachable, and eager to help, which made a big difference in my learning experience. However, not everyone was equally welcoming—some interactions felt less inclusive. Overall, the atmosphere encouraged growth and ambition, and I appreciated the opportunity to work alongside such motivated individuals.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really enjoyed my internship overall. It was a valuable learning experience where I gained new skills, worked on real client tasks, and developed my confidence in a professional setting. I particularly appreciated the exposure to tools like Xero, Dext, and Excel, and the chance to contribute meaningfully to the team. While some aspects were challenging and not everyone was equally welcoming, the experience was rewarding and has strengthened my interest in the field.

What advice would you give to others applying to Forvis Mazars
I’d recommend being genuinely curious and open to learning, as the internship offers a lot of hands-on experience. Make sure to research the firm’s values and service lines so you can tailor your application and show your interest. During the placement, don’t be afraid to ask questions, some teams are more welcoming than others, so being proactive helps. Also, brush up on Excel.
