Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
The role involves maintaining and developing credit risk and economic crime models using Excel and SAS. Presenting monthly model performance and analysis of the results to stakeholders after conducting analysis on the models. Working on Compliance of models annual performance. Updating the models to improve their efficiency and predict risk using the pre built metrics. Working on a placement project which involved advising the social impact team on best course of action for Nationwide in this space.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given equal responsibility and I was assigned many monthly tasks which includes reporting multiple model performance after rigorous analysis and presenting to stakeholders, working on Annual reviews of key credit risk models, improving the model monitoring process and handled ID&W for the team to present on crucial topics to meet yearly ID&W goals. Worked on a Social impact project to advice S.I team on next course of action in the social impact space.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Over the year I have become an expert on using SAS Applications, Excel and powerBI. Mastered my presentation skills through making the most of all available opportunities to present in monthly team meetings and by working on Social impact project. Chance to gain certifications through SAS exams

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I was offered support and guidance at every step. It was only possible for me to successfully learn all the processes and gain skills while everyone in the team were happy to refer to help at any point. Access is provided to online training courses and learning platforms to clearly understand the basics of all the technical skills needed and to build on them. Team has regular training sessions to share best practices and skill development.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The team I worked with is not only the best in the industry in terms of work but also is ranked very high in terms of the culture. Company culture is great and everyone gets a say to suggest improvements or raise concerns through regular team and department surveys. This is the type of environment that allowed me to thrive even while I was new as everyone strives to help their colleagues succeed.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
There were many opportunities to participate in various extra curricular activities, volunteering with the team, join various network groups dedicated to faith, culture, hobbies along with a free gym membership. My team hosts monthly activities for the analysts to take part, quarterly team hangouts and yearly volunteering opportunities to take part as a team. All of this made my placement enjoyable.
