Industrial Placement (Now called internship) Review

Collaborated with stakeholders to develop a Power BI dashboard replicating the SCS Bereavement Report. Conducted data discovery by meeting with report creators to identify data sources and assess metric availability in Teradata. Used SQL to clean, transform, and aggregate data, creating rolling averages and monthly comparisons. Built and refined Power BI visuals to align with existing reports, and reconciled data for accuracy. Investigated report failures in Qlik and Power BI, liaising with developers to resolve issues. Gained hands-on experience with SQL, Teradata, and Power BI while contributing to commercial BI reporting.

I was given significant responsibility during my internship. I led the development of a Power BI dashboard replicating a Bereavement Report, sourced and cleaned data using SQL and Teradata, and collaborated with stakeholders to ensure accuracy. I also investigated report failures and communicated with developers to resolve issues. This hands-on experience helped me grow technically and professionally, as I was trusted to manage key aspects of a live reporting project from start to finish.

I have been given the opportunity to learn SAS and use SAS to analyse different data sets.
I have also been apart of monitoring a mailbox which has queries about different issues around our Qlik and Bi reports and sending resolving peoples issues and assisting them.
I have learnt to use Power Bi to create reports, SQL and SAS to analyse data .

I had a really supportive manager and most senior members of the team always had half an hour to give to anyone who needed support. I also had support from my fellow placement students and was lucky to ask them for extra help or support with the work I am doing.

Nationwide has a excellent company culture and was incredibly positive and inclusive throughout my internship. From day one, I felt welcomed and supported by colleagues at all levels. I was encouraged to share ideas, ask questions, and take ownership of my work.

It was a rewarding experience where I felt both challenged and supported. The inclusive and collaborative culture made it easy to connect with colleagues and feel like a valued team member. I appreciated the responsibility I was given, especially working on real projects that had a meaningful impact. The opportunity to develop my technical skills and gain insight into the business made the experience both enjoyable and enriching.
