Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Using a variety of tools to monitor all devices on the network to find any vulnerabilities present. Then working towards patching and limiting any potential threats on said systems.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I was always treated as a valuable member of the team and everyone was more than happy to help me learn and take on projects with me.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Yes, this was a very useful experience where I got to work on improving my existing skills and gain lots of new ones. Technical skills such as coding in KQL, using Microsoft security tools such as active directory were new and very useful. I also got the chance to improve my presentation skills through working on group projects and presenting our reports to large groups of people.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received a lot of support and guidance during my internship from everyone I talked to. I had a separate manager to help me navigate the demands of the placement and made sure I had someone else to talk to outside my team. I had lots of training videos and guides to help me get up to speed really quickly.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture was amazing, everyone was very friendly and happy to help with anything. There was no immediate pressure placed on me as intern and I had time to understand everything before I was given important work.

I really loved my placement, I had the opportunity to learn from so many people. I was able to shadow different teams to see what areas interest me which was an amazing experience.

Don't stress too much about the exact role or department you apply for, as in Nationwide you are encouraged to go beyond your team to shadow other teams/departments and learn as much as you can.
