Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role was to forecast Nationwide's secured portfolios through various scenarios. This involves running models on SAS, analysing and visualising data, making expert judgments and presenting results to key stakeholders.
When the team is not in a forecast, we look to improve our process to increase efficiency and accuracy. Additional information may also be required by stakeholders, which will produce and deliver.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Throughout the placement, more responsibility was given to me after proving that tasks can be completed to a good standard.
For example, our team ran a forecast called BCST for the Bank of England. I was trusted to forecast the majority of the secured book and present back to stakeholders. This allows key development in high pressure situations.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
The main hard skill I have developed is my SAS skills. Prior to my placement I had no knowledge of the coding programme, and can now operate with ease. My excel skills have also developed, becoming more efficient with time.
Many soft skills have also developed, through working in a professional environment. This includes communication, team work, leadership and problem solving.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Personally I was provided with all the support I needed. My line manager and rest of the team were very good at making sure that I settled in well, and had everything I needed through out the year. I felt that I became a permanent member of the team and not just a placement student.
The early careers team at Nationwide were also very good at supporting all the students development.

The culture at Nationwide can be relaxed at times but this allows everyone to feel comfortable, consequently resulting in high quality work.
Everyone is very supportive, with a key focus on providing development opportunities if demanded. On the rare occasion is anyone ever rude, and most employees work with a smile on their face.
