Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
In the Corporate department my day-to-day activities involved financial due diligence, attending client calls, and completing research tasks for members across the department.
In the Real Estate department my day-to-day activities involved drafting client emails, filling out transfer forms and writing up lease reports.
Across both departments I would have meetings with my allocated supervisor and trainee buddy, along with conversations with other associates and partners.

What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
Understanding about the potential roles available allowed me to understand DLA Piper's strategy in hiring the right people who will be able to contribute to, and grow the existing business.
Gaining a greater understanding of the business further motivated my passion for a career at DLA.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have gained a greater understanding of the day-to-day internal workings of a law firm, and how different departments functions. This deeper understanding has further motivated my passion for a legal career.
I have learnt how to apply the skills I have learnt from my PGDL course in a practical way, such as filling out transfer forms and reading share purchase agreements.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture was inclusive and welcoming to each individual. I felt accepted and at ease as soon as I walked through the doors on the first day.
The general atmosphere was exciting and vibrant, with so many deals running through the firm, there is always something to be discussing and working on, which created a motivating and dynamic environment.

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight, and I would recommend this experience to anyone considering a legal career at DLA. The programme was incredibly well structured, and we were paired with inspiring and personable supervisors and buddies who supported us throughout the insight, making it a hugely enjoyable 3.5 weeks.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DLA Piper
I would advise others to have the confidence to make the initial application and believe you are good enough to be considered for a potential training contract at the firm. I would recommend reaching out to a trainee who is willing to give some initial advice on what to expect and how to prepare for the scheme.
