Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Looking after our online training platform and matching courses to employees based on their skill levels and job roles for upskilling
Organising various events to promote Siemens and early career roles (career fairs, teacher insight days, workplace safaris, etc.)
Developing early career programs to build career pathways and inspire young people into STEM
Planning, editing, and implementing marketing campaigns such as video shoots, social media campaigns, user generated content, and internal communications.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I was given a good level of responsibility during my internship at Siemens as an HR Training and Competence Intern. I assisted in organizing training sessions, managing internal documentation, and coordinating with different departments. I was also trusted to handle confidential employee data and contribute to process improvement discussions. This experience allowed me to develop my communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills while gaining a deeper understanding of HR functions in a corporate environment.

I set the following learning targets for my placement year and have learned/ enhanced the following:
1. Improve core MS Office skills (Excel, MS Forms, PowerPoint)
2. Manage a variety of projects from start to finish in order to build problem-solving skills
3. Gain experience and broaden my knowledge in Marketing and HR as well as wider business areas/ departments
4. Develop strong communication skills through liaising with various stakeholders
5. Enhance my time management skills by managing a larger workload
6. Present in front of a variety of audiences
7. Build confidence in the workplace and leading/ facilitating meetings
8. Understand how to network and build connections in the business world

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received strong support and guidance throughout my internship at Siemens. My line manager provided regular check-ins, clear instructions, and valuable feedback that helped me grow professionally. They encouraged me to take initiative while always being available for advice. Additionally, colleagues from wider departments were approachable and collaborative, offering insights into their roles and helping me understand broader HR functions. This supportive environment made it easy to learn, contribute effectively, and build confidence in my abilities.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture at Siemens was professional, inclusive, and supportive. From day one, I felt welcomed and valued as part of the team. Collaboration and open communication were encouraged across all levels, creating a positive and respectful atmosphere. There was a strong focus on employee development and well-being, with regular team activities and opportunities to learn. Getting the opportunity to go on the Brathay Lake District trip with all interns, apprentices and grads in Siemens GB&I is evidence enough. Even having our CEO Carl Ennis joing the trip, truly highlights the care they have for their ECPs

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
Loved it! My placement year completely shaped me as a student both professionally and personally. The exposure I got from being at a global company, vast work experience I gained, and business connections I built will always have me thankful to have chosen a programme with an internship opportunity.
