Summer Intern Review

As a Summer Intern I experienced a simulation of life as a commercial solicitor, where I engaged in legal research, drafting and client meetings with my respective teams in real estate and employment law. I participated in training sessions, collaborated with associates, and networked with professionals, gaining exposure to the practicalities of law I had only studied in the theoretical. In particular, some of the work I completed involved researching case law to support advising clients on legal questions, analysing break clauses in leases, and examining a claimant's claim for unfair dismissal by applying the test to the facts of the case, and relaying this information back to my supervisor.

It was interesting to gauge how the different teams worked, collaborated and supported each other. I was inspired by the firm's culture - very friendly and down-to-earth - and also impressed at how the firm conducted in affairs by the reputation that it gave off. I was also fascinated by the firm's new strategy which emphasizes doing "more in less" as this seemed like a very ambitious plan - attracting me because of the calibre of clients and work it desires to do.

This internship enhanced my legal knowledge and professional skills, preparing me for a successful career in law. The dynamic environment and diverse tasks made it an enriching and valuable experience as I learned to become more adaptable, by taking on such a variety of work, more due diligent, by ensuring I have researched and analysed enough to not leave any stone unturned, and more confident, as my feedback assured me of my capabilities.

The company exhibited a very friendly and down to earth atmosphere that was immediately apparent when walking through the doors. Everybody was very welcoming and no conversation seemed daunting. It exhibited a very family vibe.

I enjoyed the insight very much as it provided a very real and practical experience of life as a commercial solicitor at a major law firm.
