Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I prepare accounts, VAT returns and sometimes Corporation tax returns for small and medium companies. I am in charge of some jobs and can allocate to juniors. I mostly only have contact with clients via email but sometimes visit their office or have a Teams meeting. Internally, I will be in the office most days and there will be people in each team to ask for help.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
It can be stressful but that is the nature of the industry. When I get time to focus on a job and work through it, it can be enjoyable. On the other hand, some clients can give messy information which can be a nightmare. All in all, I enjoy it most days.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
The skills I have developed most are leadership and communication. I will be in charge of my workload each day and letting managers know what I can and can't do. I also have to be flexible as urgent jobs often come in last minute and I will have to drop what I am doing.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
It is very well structured. Once you have passed your probation, First Intuition will send a planner of when you'll sit exams and how long you can expect to be in college for each course and rough dates.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
We have mental health champions and the managers are all willing to muck in and help out. You will be exposed to a wide range of jobs so you will learn quickly and opportunities will not be limited.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
First Intuition offer a week's tuition and then a week's revision for each exam from the second level onwards. you are also given the tutor's number and email so that you can ask any questions. There is an online learning portal with video lectures and mock exams, some of which will be marked.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
They both work hand-in-hand. The work helps you understand the study quicker and the study helps progressing your work. They overlap a lot.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
Not really.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Affinia to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The breadth of experience on offer is vast and all the managers and friendly and helpful.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Affinia?
Be yourself. As a apprenticeship provider we are often hiring people with little to no accounting experience so your personality is more likely to be important. We are a group of friendly people looking for the right character fit to blossom. Also, be prepared to work hard.
