I am a second year apprentice in cnc engineering. This involves me learning how to set machines up before they are ran through putting new tools in and learning about the program this can vary depending on how hard the jobs are and there are always support options available through the mentors and other senior members
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme a lot in many ways as everyone i work with are very supportive helping to improve my confidence and i also enjoy the challenge of learning new things every day and i also enjoy my days in college interacting with my tutors and learning new knowledge off people from different companies.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt so many new skills since beginning the program and this has helped me challenge myself everyday to learn new skills and pass on my knowledge to the new apprentices
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My structure is very organised as i have daily meetings with the cell leader, apprenticeship coach and HR in reviewing how i think i am getting on and i am able to share my opinion and it is valued. When I come in I am always learning something new.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive plenty of support from my employer as they are always asking my opinion on things not only to do with work but are always willing to support me personally and there is always someone there available who is willing to help whether that is personal or my work life.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I am well supported by my training provider as he always checks up on my work and offers additional support if needed and he also talks to my apprentice coach in work giving me the chance to catch up on my college work in my actual workplace.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It helps me a lot mainly in the health and safety and manual handling work as i am now much more aware of the dangers in engineering. I am also much more confident on the manual handling and being able to complete tasks without supervision in my workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is not many extra curricular activities but I play for a football team which Bryken has kindly offered to sponsor and we also have a number of social opportunities for the staff to get together outside of work such as a Christmas night out and there is a library in the canteen for anyone who wishes to read

Because it is a very supportive workplace which makes every member of staff feel valued
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bryken?
Do your research about the company and just be honest in the interview and expect to be ready for a challenge and work hard
