Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As Head of People at Althaus, my role is centered around creating a well balanced culture that supports both individual growth and business performance. On a day-to-day basis, I oversee the full employee lifecycle, from talent acquisition and onboarding, to development, engagement, and retention strategies.
I work closely with leadership to align our people strategy with our company goals, ensuring we build and maintain a high-performing, values-driven team. A typical day might include everything from leading initiatives around performance management and professional development, to supporting managers with team dynamics or coaching sessions, to driving key DEI and wellbeing programmes.
I’m also focused on ensuring we maintain a great employee experience, whether that’s through implementing effective communication channels, listening to feedback, or continuously evolving our internal policies and practices to meet the needs of our team as we grow.
Ultimately, my goal is to build an environment where people feel valued, empowered, and excited to contribute to our mission at Althaus.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I'm really enjoying the programme—it’s been a great opportunity to step back from the day-to-day and focus on my own development. It’s given me the space to reflect, build on my leadership skills, and connect with others who are facing similar challenges in different industries, which has been incredibly valuable.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, definitely. Since stepping into the role at Althaus , I’ve both developed existing skills and picked up new ones, especially in areas like strategic workforce planning, data-informed decision making, and change management.
One of the biggest areas of growth for me has been in using people analytics to drive more strategic conversations at the leadership level. I’ve become more confident in interpreting data to understand trends around engagement, retention, and performance, and using those insights to shape more targeted initiatives.
I’ve also deepened my skills in coaching and leadership development—supporting our managers to grow into stronger, more empathetic leaders has been a big focus. On top of that, I’ve had the chance to strengthen my knowledge around employment law and HR operations as we scale, which has been invaluable for building a strong and compliant foundation for the team.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is well-structured and thoughtfully designed. There’s a good balance between theoretical learning and practical application, which helps make the content feel relevant and immediately useful in my role.
The sessions are well paced and build on each other logically, which makes it easier to stay engaged and track my progress. I also appreciate the clarity around what’s expected, such as deadlines, assignments, and learning outcomes are clearly communicated, which helps with planning around a busy work schedule.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I’ve received a really high level of support from Althaus throughout the programme. The leadership team genuinely values continuous learning and development, and that’s been reflected in the time, encouragement, and flexibility they’ve given me to fully engage with the programme.
I’ve also had regular check-ins with my manager to discuss how I’m applying what I’ve learned in real time, which has helped reinforce the learning and keep it relevant to my role. It’s been great to feel that the business sees this as an investment not just in me personally, but in the wider People function and our growth as a team.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
A good amount of support, there where a few issues to begin with, which have now been resolved. I have a good, supportive skills coach.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel that my qualification through my training provider is helping me perform better in my role in a number of ways. It’s giving me a solid foundation in HR principles and best practices, which helps me understand the reasoning behind certain processes and decisions in the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are definitely opportunities to get involved in extra-curricular activities at work. We have regular social events which are a great way to meet people from different teams and build relationships outside of day-to-day tasks. These include things like team lunches, seasonal events, and charity fundraisers.
