Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
A day-to-day role in the rural surveying industry is varying and unpredictable which helps keep the role engaging and exciting. For instance the role has a good balance of being out on site conducting landowner meetings , speaking with agents and land referencing to then conducting in office work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the course a lot with the balance between academic learning through university to being able to apply this learning in the work place environment which ensures that there is always something new to learn everyday whether that be at work or in University.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Working as a Rural Surveyor has shown me the importance of really being a "people person" in the sense of being able to communicate professionally with both clients and other industry professionals. I would say that so far in my time as an Apprentice Rural Surveyor my communication skills have been most significantly developed and the most transferable skill across all industries.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is structured on a rota for every 4 weeks, 1 week is spent at university, in addition to allocated time within the work place for completing university work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer and fellow colleagues are extremely supportive which allows me to always have someone to talk to whether that be to be allocating work or helping understand new tasks i have been asked to do.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Harper Adams University supply a huge level for both my academic development and work life development. Every quarter-year, allocated tutors conduct meetings with both the employee and employer to record development and this is an excellent opportunity to seek advice and support where necessary.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Harper Adams provide a variety of Lectures and Seminars which aim to provide us with the appropriate knowledge for applying in the workplace. For instance, Harper Adams know the appropriate modules to teach in depth which helps develop my knowledge in the Rural Surveying industry.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
FGP Surveyors provide facilities such as a work gym and promote the undertaking of a healthy lifestyle such as promoting walking 10,000 steps a day and taking part in charity run events that aim to give back to the community whilst taking part in physical activity. Additionally, through FGP Surveyors i have had the privilege of attending professional networking events run by the CAAV where industry professionals meet to discuss tops and a great networking opportunity.
