Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

The role entails a variety of different day to day tasks that can change at an instance. This variety makes the role exciting and thrilling as you don't know what to expect each day. Site visits, land referencing, reviewing titles for landowners and access to possible wind/solar sites.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the course a lot, the balance between University life and Working works really well. The variety of projects and regular site visits mean that everyday is busy and a day of learning.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The apprenticeship has improved my confidence and communication in speaking to new people, an important skill needed when speaking to new clients and landowners.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Extremely organised due to regular meetings/contact with the University and my employer. Employers also have regular meetings with the university in order to stay up to date with upcoming events. The week is planned out and communicated with me so I know what to expect each week.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer is extremely supportive, each day we speak to our line manager and other directors in order to know what we are doing daily.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Harper Adams University provide a huge level of support for all students and apprentices, the regular review meetings with the university and the employer provide feedback and a clear path as to any improvements needed. Regular course tutor sessions when at university also help to bring up any issues.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The university provides the highest level of teaching during lectures and tutorials, with most lecturers being in practice previous to their job at the university. Therefore, they know what subjects and modules should be looked in depth on in order to provide the best training.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Work provide facilities such as a gym that can be used for free before and after work. They also have incentives such as a daily 10k steps target. With the person with the most steps in a month being able to give money to their chosen charity.

The variety of work undertaken day to day ensures that motivation within the business remains high and no day is the same. Furthermore, incentives such as the free work gym and steps targets ensures that a healthy work lifestyle is maintained.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to FGP Surveyors?
Ensure you have relevant work experience as this distinguishes you from other applications. Have a want to work within the built environment sector and passion to help to introduce new wind/solar schemes within the UK.
