Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role involves installing, commissioning, and servicing the company's equipment on customer's sites and the regional office. The team I am a part of covers customer's sites over Europe and South Africa. I provide customer service, maintaining a healthy relationship between the company and the customers.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have heavily enjoyed my time working for TNA. The employees are very supportive and understanding. I can always rely on them when I have a question or I feel like I have misunderstood something. Travelling across Europe has led me to meet a wide variety of people which I wouldn't have usually met if I had not joined TNA. I enjoyed meeting and bonding with the customers and mixing into their cultures. I enjoyed learning about engineering and using the knowledge and skills I have learnt to complete engineering tasks.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed my knowledge of mechanical and electronic/electrical engineering. I have improved my troubleshooting skills and dexterity. I have become comfortable and confident with the ability to perform my role independently and as part of a team thanks to the commitment from the company to develop my understanding and skillset. I have experienced working with a large variety of tools and equipment which helped better my understanding on how things work and why they are the way they are. Working with people all over Europe has helped me become a better communicator and team player.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
TNA is very professional and has organised programmes based on the company's work/equipment. They provide training on all the equipment I work on. TNA provides me with my own personal tools which I travel with and use to complete engineering tasks. TNA uses schedules and procedures to help maintain a structured work flow. TNA maintains a skills matrix for its employees and I can ask my manager where I can improve on.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from TNA. The company provides training for all the company's equipment and also hosts training weeks for any 3rd party equipment I work with. TNA provides access to LinkedIn Learning for all its employees which I have used to develop any skills I feel I can work on. The company maintains a skills matrix which is reviewed regularly to identify where I can improve on. TNA provides me with all the tools I require for my role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my training provider. They are very understanding and supportive when I am unsure on engineering concepts or when I am struggling to understand. I gained a lot of feedback on the work that I did and they always pushed me to do better.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The course that I did through the training provider was a Level 3 Mechatronics course. Mechatronics is the combination of mechanical and electronic/electrical engineering. The course started out by outlining the responsibilities of my role, work safety, and the business practices found in engineering workplaces such as Kaizen and lean manufacturing. Understanding these helped me work more safely and efficiently, displaying good work ethics and business practices in front of customers. The qualification also helped me understand how core engineering mechanics work, helping me understand why the company's equipment is designed like it is. The qualification also helped me develop my troubleshooting skills and improved my critical thinking.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
TNA regularly encourages social activities like sports and gaming competitions. The most recent one is Dragon Boat Racing, where the company will enter a local boat race. TNA also fundraises for various charities and will host activities to help raise those funds. During the summer when the weather is good, the company will provide a free BBQ for lunch. The company also hosts Christmas parties before the Christmas break. LinkedIn Learning is provided to all employees to access a large collection of courses to develop personal skills. TNA uses a point system where you can earn points from other employees. These points can be cashed out for rewards, for example bringing a pet to the office.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend TNA Europe to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The company is very welcoming and the employees are always supportive. You can develop a large engineering skillset and travel across Europe meeting many different people, creating a wide network.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TNA Europe?
Everyone working at TNA is different, so be yourself. I would say the best characteristic to have is a growth mindset, where you are dedicated to developing your skills and focusing on continuous improvement. This can be easily achieved if you are interested in engineering.
