Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I learn from a mentor on a construction site doing all elements of carpentry like: roofs, first fix, second fix and finals. Depending on what me and my mentor do that day I may be fixing skirting, framing wall or fixing door handles and sometimes shadowing my mentor carrying out a task to try and learn from him.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the program very much, I couldn’t see myself doing anything else as it is very engaging and practical which has allowed me to develop myself in so many ways.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Communication and organisation would be two of the key skills that I’ve developed on my apprenticeship as the job requires them to be able to work safely and efficiently.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It’s very well organised and structured. Everything is clear and easy to navigate which makes the apprenticeship very enjoyable.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

The support from LJ construction is amazing from the minute I started at LJ the support from the company was incredible and it made starting the apprenticeship so much easier knowing that the company was there to support you.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provide is very supportive when it comes to working towards my qualification they are always communicating with you making sure you understand everything to be able to progress with your qualification.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The way the learning is structured and the learning support from multi trades training helps builds my skills and increases my confidence in completing the relevant skills In the job.
