Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As a carpenter apprentice my days will most likely be different I only do first fixing so I could do roofing,joisting,first fix I’ve been an apprentice for a bit over 6 months now I’ll do the little jobs but occasionally I’ll get involved in things like stud work and the harder bits you learn.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy it a lot coming in with little to no experience the 1 month phase in the unit definitely made me more confident to go out on site and got me ready for that type of environment and I work with great people and everyone I’ve met are cool and it’s a good friendly environment to be around.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes definitely being on site and always being on the power tools I definitely think I’ve improved and I’m happy with my abilities for example before I used a square to cut with circular saw but now I can confidently cut free hand.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Me personally I think its structured very well I have no negatives to say really I haven’t had to many issues

How much support do you receive from your employer?

Well we was supplied free tools and all PEE and made our lives easier by sorting our CSCS cards. Also if i have any questions or need help he always replies in quick time.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

At first I was all a bit confusing to be honest but now we’ve gone through it all together and everyone understands it now and it’s a good trained provider I enjoy because we get to work from home and the software we use quals direct is good and very easy to understand to help reach your qualifications.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think it helps because for example there’s targets you wanna reach for example there portfolio and OFTJH work so you want to be trying your best to learn the stuff and get videos of you doing them so it makes you wanna learn quicker.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Would you recommend LJ Construction Carpentry Contractors Limited to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Because it’s a really good company to work for they supply things for you and get decent money you get a qualification out of it and if your good enough it’s a 2 year apprenticeship so if you focus you could be fully qualified carpenter and become a sub contractor and earn good money. and it’s a great environment to be around everyone I’ve come across in the company have been very kind and freindly.
