Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role here at GT engine services is an apprentice engine mechanic. I am currently striving towards a successful career with my company, where every day I am honing in on various workshop skills. My typical day here at GT engine services includes lots of task specific learning, which is taught by our highly experienced instructor. Our instructor will allocate tasks for us to complete, with detailed instructions and will support all of us apprentices, ensuring we are thoroughly understanding each task. Currently one of the projects we are doing to improve our skills is the modification of a soapbox go-kart for an upcoming event. Along the way I have learnt about tool control, time keeping and many other workshop skills, including riveting, measuring and assembling components.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am currently enjoying my programme, which is due to the team I have surrounding me, but also because I can develop my knowledge, while applying the knowledge into tasks that I am completing. Working at GT engine services has advanced my passion for the industry by providing me goals to strive towards

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt countless amounts of new skills with GT engine services. The skills I have developed include various mechanical skills, such as hand skills (riveting, filing and assembling), workshop etiquette (tidying workshop and workshop safety). However, aside from all of the typical workshop skills, GT engine services are constantly striving for a better team environment by emphasising the importance of communication, teamwork and respecting colleagues. This is further developed through our company values including respect and integrity, which personally think is a crucial skill required to thrive in the aeronautical industry.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is well organised, with a structured balance between work, college and learning. Every day provides new tasks and challenges with extensive planning from our instructor, so we can apply the knowledge and propel our learning experience further.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer has regular one-to-one meetings to discuss the progress I am making, how they can support me more and any concerns I may have. My employer is very prompt in addressing and concerns to provide a more comfortable workspace.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My provider offers me extra time to revise the relevant topics for my qualifications, also providing me with extra resources and practical demonstrations to support this, including a day trip to Duxford Air Museum, which was very insightful to visualise work we could soon be producing.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that my training provider assists me in performing better, as they analyse my strengths and weaknesses, and target where I can improve. This helps me perform better as I have specific goals for improvement.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
My employer hosts multiple events across the year to engage the team, including many social events, such as the soapbox race in Great Dunmow and many other events, also raising money for different charities.
