Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am an early years apprentice. I am based in the baby room and have my own key children. We follow the routines of the babies and carry out their personal care routines such as nappy changes and their meal times. There is also a lot of communication with the parents and this is important for handovers.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my programme and love working for Crafty Wizards, however I feel as though the coursework for each month is longer than the hours I can be given.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Since starting my apprenticeship, I have developed skills around safeguarding. I now know what it is and my responsibilities at my setting. I know how to write reports, observations and narratives. Since moving to baby room, I have also learnt about different types of play and communication. I have also learnt some signs in Makaton!
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is very structured, it is easy to access all of the work on Aptem and meetings are set clearly. This helps for the months work by being able to talk to my tutor.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive lots of support. I am not the only one doing the level 2 apprenticeship and so this also helps as we can have group discussions and gain advice. We have employer led activities for each month and these are always completed to a great extent. I feel as though I can ask any questions and also confide in my manager and gain the support I need.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

For the first few months I did not have a tutor, however there was always someone available on Aptem who could help me with my questions. Since being assigned a tutor, I meet with her twice a month to have our 1-2-1 sessions and the month’s masterclass. This is an opportunity to ask my tutor any questions I might have about the work I have to do.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification has helped me to improve my knowledge and confidence whilst carrying out important tasks!
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I am in charge of social media at my site. We also have monthly staff events too!

Would you recommend Crafty Wizards to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I feel as though each site’s teams are very close and this helps with the positive work ethic and team tasks. There are good employee benefits and I am able to get the support I need to carry out my apprenticeship!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Crafty Wizards?
If offered a trial shift, make sure you show your knowledge and be as interactive as possible! Also don’t be afraid to ask for help.
