Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role spans from commercial to operational liaison with internal and external stakeholders. I am responsible for pricing enquiries and opportunities - which involved measuring and estimating timescale & materials required & producing a written quotation based on the below. Once the job is live or won, I am responsible for updates with the client as well as the invoicing once works are handed over. However, my job doesn't end there - it is my responsibility to ensure the invoice is paid within our terms. I do this across multiple one off jobs as well as cyclical programmes, and then produce monthly CVR figures to my managers for the jobs completed.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

My programme was good for providing an overview of the construction industry as a whole. Where Bell group do not carry out some works that I learned about in college (excavation & foundations etc) I was able to gain an elementary understanding of key terms to help me liaise with subcontractors and operational staff better.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned new commercial skills such as valuations, retentions and clauses which relate to how we can price and bill works. The biggest area of new skills learned is the operational side of things, as I had no prior experience before Bell Group in construction - only accounting & commercial work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme was structured well - all areas of QS were covered and the programme was clear in what the learning outcomes were. Plenty of literature was available for no cost to help enhance this knowledge,
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Support is at the forefront of Bell Group and I have felt this from day one. Often I am asked if I have any issues before I even think of raising them - showing that open discussion and support is encouraged across the whole business.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I received as much support as I requested. I was pretty self sufficient on the course as I have previously completed a masters degree - so the academic process was familiar to me. However, college were always on hand to make sure I had support if I required it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

As previously mentioned, the overall knowledge gained of the construction industry has helped me become more confident in discussing more complex jobs with subcontractors and specialist operations staff at Bell Group
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many network events hosted by Bell Group and these are shared regularly with the whole business
