Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
put stock away, do prepicks for services, serve customers out front, serve techs, answer the phone for customers looking to purchase parts, bring parts and tyres onto the system, parts advise
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
i enjoy it however the hours are extremely harsh. it's easy to get into a routine and pick up systems and find yourself to be useful to others.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
phone etiquette, talking to people, communicating clearly, speaking professionally, addressing people professionally, organisation, knowledge of automotive processes

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
it's organised okay but not greatly. a lot of the work i do is PSHE related which, as a 19 year old, I already learnt in school. But i can see the milestones and goals clearly.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
my colleagues are very helpful and inspire me to learn. My employer has helped me throughout my apprenticeship and shown me the correct and proper way to complete tasks.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
any time i emailed them they didn't answer. Sessions are boring and repetitive. I had a module about sexually transmitted diseases which was completely inappropriate and unrelated to my qualification and job. some of the modules I need to learn are absolutely useless and frustrating.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
it helps me feel more confident but doesn't make a huge difference. the job was easy to pick up and i believe I'm a good asset to the company.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
no

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Group 1 Automotive to a friend?
Yes
Why?
it's a nice working environment (there are definitely some absolute children here) and it is relatively easy to pick up the systems. However the hours we are forced to work are absolutely diabolical. As an apprentice I struggle massively on a bare minimum wage (7.44 an hour) yet I'm still here 10 hours a day providing help and being useful towards the company. I think it's a huge exploitation.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Group 1 Automotive?
be careful what u wish for
